Metropolitan Fine Printers once again has taken its place among
the world’s most awarded lithographers, this time winning “Best of Category – They said it couldn’t be done” at the 2022 United Alliance Premier PRINT Awards for the Westbank Oakridge Awakening Book. This category is for a printer who exceeds all limitations and expectations when tackling the numerous challenges faced on the most difficult jobs.
“Recognition of this magnitude is a tremendous honour, particular in our 45th anniversary year” says MET Founder and Chairman George Kallas. “At MET, we’ve always taken great pride in our craftsmanship and innovation, but we can’t do it alone. I attribute our success to four key factors: the creative clients with whom we’re blessed to collaborate, the MET team, who live and breathe printing and who everyday strive to stretch the limits of lithography, the Komori Corporation for supplying us the finest printing presses in the world and to our many suppliers who work tirelessly to help us achieve our goals.
Using a variety of innovative techniques and mixed media, MET was able to overcome numerous obstacles to achieve a truly flawless product. The almost lifelike experience desired by the client put us to the test, but we never back down from a challenge to bring our clients’ visions to life. Heavy black coverage with beautiful vibrant colours on a metallic stock with a soft touch laminate was truly a technical challenge. During the soft touch lamination, we discovered the ink layer on the case material was lifting so by adjusting the film laminate temperature to a perfect level and multiple rounds of testing, we were able to find the perfect setting for the lamination to adhere properly, leading to a successful outcome.
The ripple mirror along the top and the bottom of the case continues this fluid experience, testing multiple styles and thicknesses to get the appearance just right for our customer.
